Day 25 of our European adventure turned out to be one of those days where we didn't really do very much… but somehow we've got plenty to talk about!
The weather certainly decided to keep us entertained. We had rain, sunshine, thunderstorms, lightning and even rainbows – basically the full European weather package, all delivered in one day. 🌦️
And, of course, when you're sitting inside a motorhome during a thunderstorm, there's something rather comforting about listening to the rain hammering on the roof. Although, at nearly midnight, it does make recording a daily blog somewhat interesting!
A Proper Lazy Day
We're still enjoying our stay at the nature site, and we've really settled into the relaxed atmosphere here.
There's something about being on a campsite like this that makes you slow down. We've had a couple of lazy days, and Day 25 was definitely another one.
We did manage to get Tiley and Frankie out for a walk in the evening. It wasn't the longest walk we've ever taken, but we managed to find a gap between the thunderstorms.
The sun even came back out for about an hour, which was perfect timing.
The only downside?
Carrying dog poo bags halfway around the campsite because there aren't many bins! 😂
Apparently, everyone here just follows the campsite etiquette and takes their rubbish to the designated area. And to be fair, the place is incredibly clean. People seem to respect the rules, which makes such a difference.
The Great Touring Ideas Catch-Up
While the weather did its thing outside, we spent quite a bit of the day catching up on the Touring Ideas website.
We've accumulated a ridiculous amount of photographs, videos and drone footage during this trip, and keeping track of everything is becoming a job in itself!
We've been going through the pictures, sorting videos and trying to remember exactly where we've got up to with the blogs.
We also realised we haven't uploaded as many photographs recently as we'd planned, so that's another job for the list.
The Touring Ideas Facebook page has also been getting some attention, so although it felt like a lazy day, we actually got quite a lot done behind the scenes.
Dinner Was Definitely a Success
We also managed to eat rather well.
Suzanne cooked a vegetable risotto, followed by some chicken skewers and there was plenty left over.
Which, naturally, meant only one thing… Tiley and Frankie got involved!
They were hanging around waiting for anything remotely resembling leftovers to hit the floor. They weren't exactly suffering. 🐶😂
And then came the toilet emptying incident…
Now we get to the bit that will probably stay in our memories for a very long time.
Steven had the glamorous job of emptying the motorhome toilet cassette. For anyone unfamiliar with motorhome life, this isn't exactly the highlight of the day. You pick up a cassette containing… well… let's just call it the least desirable cargo imaginable, and head off to find the disposal point.
Simple, right?... Apparently not.
There was a sign pointing towards the toilet waste disposal area near reception. So Steven wandered down there carrying the cassette, only to discover what appeared to be a little building.
Unfortunately… There was no hole.
Not exactly encouraging when you're standing there carrying a cassette full of toilet waste. So he headed into reception to ask where on earth he was supposed to empty it.
And this is where things got very surreal.
This is a naturist site, and let's just say the people wandering around reception weren't exactly dressed for business.
There was Steven, carrying a cassette of toilet waste, trying to communicate in French, while attempting to work out where he could dispose of it.
It's difficult to imagine a more awkward conversation with everyone, and I mean everyone, including office staff sat at their desks, were in their birthday suits.
Eventually, after some pointing, gestures and what was probably some extremely questionable French, the correct disposal point was located.
Job done.
But it's certainly an experience that will be difficult to forget!
Naturist Camping: Not Quite What We Expected
One of the things we've talked about during this trip is how different the reality of something can be compared with what you imagine beforehand. Before coming here, there was a little bit of nervousness about what a naturist campsite would actually be like.
Would it be uncomfortable?
Would it feel strange?
Would it be a bit… well… sleazy?
Actually, we've found the complete opposite. The whole place is based around respect, personal boundaries and etiquette, and everyone just seems to get on with their day.
It's become completely normal to us.
Well… Mostly normal.
There are still moments when you walk past somebody on the way to the toilet and think: “Yep… that's something you don't see every day!” 😂
And that's probably what makes this whole adventure so entertaining.
Laughing Until Our Stomachs Hurt
Perhaps the biggest thing we did today was laugh.
We've been going back through some of our old voice recordings, photographs and stories from the trip, and honestly, we've been laughing our socks off. Some of the memories we've created are absolutely hilarious. And the more we've written these daily blog posts, the more we've relaxed into them. At the beginning, we weren't really sure what we were supposed to write.
Now? We're just telling it how it happened.
We don't want to offend anyone, and we're certainly not trying to take the mickey out of people. But when you're travelling and experiencing things that are completely outside your normal everyday life, sometimes you simply have to laugh. And that's exactly what we've been doing.
Tomorrow… The Big Drive!
The relaxing days are nearly over because tomorrow we've got a big drive ahead of us towards Brittany.
Most of the outside of the motorhome is already packed away. We've just got a few things to sort in the morning, including the floor covering and electric cable.
We've filled up with water, so we'll be ready to get moving. The plan is to tackle a serious amount of motorway, although we'll obviously need to stop along the way to give Tiley and Frankie a break.
We certainly aren't planning on doing hundreds of miles without stopping!
Once we're in Brittany, we'll have a couple of days to enjoy the area before eventually heading towards the ferry. We're also planning a trip to the vets on Saturday and there may possibly be a little bit of wine shopping involved. Well… priorities! 🍷😂
We're hoping to explore around the Roscoff area and perhaps head towards the coast, where we can give the girls a really good run before we catch the ferry.
Day 25 – Done & Dusted
So that's Day 25 finished.
A lazy day? Definitely.
A wasted day? Absolutely not.
We've caught up with the website, sorted photographs and videos, cleaned the motorhome, walked the dogs, cooked some cracking food, listened to the rain, survived thunderstorms and, most importantly, laughed ourselves silly and that's really what this European adventure has been about.
Seeing places, experiencing new things, meeting people, making memories and having a good laugh along the way.
Tomorrow we're back on the road. After 25 days of travelling, we're starting to realise that the stories we're collecting are almost as important as the places we're visiting.
Now let's just hope the weather behaves itself for the big drive… Although, judging by today, we're not holding our breath! 🌩️🚐🇫🇷
